About Lordsmead Preschool

Lordsmead pre-school is a community pre-school which was established in 1976 and is run by a committee of parents. We are an independent, non-profit making registered charity. Situated in St Peters Church premises we have the use of a large playroom, registration/singing room and a school preparation room. We are well equipped and also have a secure outside play area which can be used all year round.

We are registered providers with Social Services, members of the Pre-School Learning Alliance and we are Ofsted inspected.

Aims of Lordsmead Preschool

  • Enhance the development and education of children in a community-based Preschool
  • Provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment
  • Work within a framework that ensures opportunities for all children and families
  • Encourage parents to be actively involved in Preschool activities

Within the group all children are supported in developing their potential at their own pace.  Through appropriate play activities and a high level of individual adult input, we offer a range of activities.  All our plans and activities are linked to some, if not all of the nationally approved Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive art and design

You will learn more about these during discussions with your child’s key worker.

During their time with us we hope that children learn:

  • to share and play with other children
  • to trust and accept new situations
  • to experiment with all sorts of materials and activities
  • to express themselves in many different ways
  • to develop their language skills
  • to work things out and problem solve
  • to do things for themselves developing confidence and responsibilities

Since March 2004 we have had a School Preparation Group.  Places are offered in order of age.  The group supplements but does not replace the Main Room.  Activities focus on building up confidence and independence needed to start school.
